not a designer
here's to hoping content is more important than form. |

One year ago: Will I ever have another idea? Two years ago: Darin and I go to see Bulworth. Three years ago: I had website problems then, too. Today's news question:With whom has President Clinton been meeting, and what sorts of topics are they discussing? (Don't send me your answers. This is just a little way to expand your horizons. Honest.) |

I give up. I can't design. Maybe it's the fact I use HTML and not a cool webpage design program. But everything I come up with looks dorky. Maybe it isn't dorky and I just think it is. I don't have the greatest confidence in my design abilities. Every time I pick a color scheme I hear Eva Cyrus from sixth grade tell me, "You're terrible with colors." I've never learned to draw, either. Phbbbbtttt. I don't have much time at the moment. I guess I could put Sophia in the bouncy chair for half an hour at a time or something, but I don't want to. If she's asleep, great. If Darin is around, great. Other than that, I've got her and I like to pay attention to her. Tomorrow is the fourth anniversary of nobody knows anything/The Paperwork. I wanted to get a new design done by then. I failed. Oh well, onward and upward. On the journals list, there's a discussion of redesigning a site right now. Someone mentioned that sites should be redesigned every 3 to 6 months. Well, I guess I'm just hopeless.
Yesterday we were very busy. Sanford and Barbara, friends of Darin's friend Nevin, came by to have brunch with us at John O'Groats. We ended up taking them to the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena. Very beautiful gardens, very hot day. We went from there into downtown Pasadena, where we stopped at Gordon Biersch for some lemonade and an appetizer-snack. Then we came home, Darin demonstrated TiVo for a while, and then Sanford and Barbara took off for their dinner plans. We had spent 8 hours together. I was bushed. Darin stayed up to play Starcraft. How, I do not know. I got in bed with Sophia and read for a little bit.
I finally started the Wordplay gig on Friday -- I brought up the bulletin boards, realized Terry had introduced me, and went, "Oh!" I already had a good idea of what to do, however, because for the previous two weeks I'd been sending mail to the Wordplay Webmaster (Annie) about what I would do, and she would tell me whether it was a good idea or not. |
