The quote of the day:
"This is a straightforward investigation."
"That's what they want you to think."
"Sir, we are they."

-- King of the Hill

Running news:
4.7 miles, immediately followed by 2 more hours of sleep. Sigh.

Totally obvious criminal-as-deity movie that I missed: Pulp Fiction.

It was so foggy this morning I could not see to the end of the block. I was terrified some bozo, thinking that the whole "put on your lights when conditions are bad" thing doesn't apply to him, would come roaring out of the fog toward me.

This didn't happen. I just have that kind of imagination.

Here's how most movies currently getting green-lighted in Hollywood are described:

It's _____________ in high school.

You know. Like All About Eve in high school (a French exchange student stays with the most popular girl in the class and sets about trying to replace her). Or Faust in high school. No. I'm not kidding--these are on their way to a multiplex near you.

We've seen the start of this: Disturbing Behavior appeared to be The Stepford Wives go to high school.

This, clearly, is the wave of the future, and far be it from me to get in the way of progress. Today I spent thinking up several possible loglines along this line, such as:

  • Lawrence of Arabia in high school: a young man takes the reins of a culture other than his own...perhaps, the football team. I haven't figured out the whole Omar Sharif thing yet, but give me a few days.
  • A Fish Called Wanda in high school: a wacky caper involving theft of the high school mascot and the involvement of a student whose morals are normally unimpeachable; hilarity ensues.
  • Remains of the Day in high school: a young student who identifies himself in his subservient role to others falls in love with another student. They are torn apart by graduation and the rise of fascism.

Mind you, I've only given you the ones I think are implausible. I'm not stupid--I'm fleshing out the other ones.
