I went in to see the eye doctor and discovered that my vision is 20/30 in one eye, 20/80 in the other (which accounts for why everything's so blurry), and I'm now farsighted.

Cool.

He made me up some glasses and told me that with a touch-up surgery they can probably correct the last vision problems. Touch-up is included in the price you pay for the initial surgery, which is thoughtful -- God knows I wouldn't want to pay that price again.

In the evening Darin, Nevin, and I went over to the Guys' house (I'm not supposed to call it "The Boys'" any more), where we ordered tons of Chinese food and Darin talked about the game Fallout. I'm currently refusing to play Fallout, not because I don't like a good game from time to time, but because I don't need a new game throwing me off track quite yet. Talk to me December 10th: I'll probably be all over it.

When Brent arrived with Therese and Ellie he immediately closed the blinds of the window we were sitting by, claiming that we were setting ourselves up as an easy target for a drive-by shooting. We got on the topic of guns and Brent showed me his collection: a shotgun, a hunting rifle, and a Beretta.

I told him that since I'm always having characters whip out guns, I really ought to learn how to use one. So at some point in the future Brent's going to take me out with his rifle and shotgun and teach me how to shoot. For handguns, he recommended I start with a revolver, not an automatic like the Beretta. I can probably go to the Beverly Hills Gun Club to get some lessons and use their revolvers, instead of having to buy my own.

We also talked about LASIK surgery and what a goddamn miracle it is that modern science can do this. To compare: no amount of therapeutic touch therapy, to choose but one, is going to change my vision one whit.
