pix from our vacation
return to the days of yore.
Running news:
3.5 miles.

You know, it's not like I have to wait to get pix developed when I've got a digital camera.

However, I am extremely lazy, so instead of putting these up when I did my travelogues, I'm putting them up now.

This is the Baltimore Convention Center. I don't know why I took a picture of it: architecturally, it's not very interesting. But I did spend an inordinate amount of time there.

The Bromo-Seltzer Tower landmark was one of the features of downtown Baltimore I liked. It just struck me as weird. Also, we could see it from our hotel room, and we couldn't see much from it.

Baltimore Harbor: one of the nice parts of downtown Baltimore. Just beyond this picture lurk the parts of Baltimore you don't want to visit. In fact, if you look real closely, you can see the seedier parts of Baltimore luring unsuspecting tourists in.

This, of course, is the Reflecting Pool that lays between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Monument. It's fairly impressive, more so when you realize that Lincoln gets to stare at Washington's, er, Monument all day long.

The Mall of America

Actually, the Mall area is laid out very well. I simply have to stop visiting Washington at hot times of year to fully enjoy it.

I took the picture of the Reflecting Pool from the Lincoln Monument, which honors, as I mentioned in the entry about our walk on the Mall, my favorite President. So I include a picture of his statue here.

You can make lots of jokes about our Nation's Capitol--and I have, trust me--but the building itself is impressive. You don't find yourself thinking, This is a pansy-ass building. You find yourself wondering where you're supposed to genuflect or give blood or something. Which is, clearly, the intent.

Behind the Capitol is the Library of Congress. We couldn't find any books, but we did find a place to sit and sweat in peace for a little while.

And here's my proof that I visited the Cryptological Museum in Maryland. I recommend going to see this museum if you a)have the time and b)can get directions. They don't make this museum easy to find, which is kind of ironic. Or maybe not.

The seal of the Cryptologic Museum

Yes, this museum exists

In other news: I have to run more--I discovered at the doctor's office today that I've put on a couple of pounds, which is a little understandable after a party weekend but...eek!
