What is a blog? It’s publishing on the web with extremely low entrance requirements. (Actually, that’s not what they said, but I’m sitting on concrete, okay?)

This discussion of blogging is hilarious, because I feel like I’ve been having this conversation for, oh, years and years and years. Which, of course, I have. Blogging software has just made it a lot easier for more and more people to get in on it and publish more and more. Well, true: before blogger you actually had to alter files yourself. But other than that, whenever they say “blog” I think “online journal” and this is pretty familiar stuff.

Dammit, I should be up there.

I think I may have mentioned this before, though no time recently—when I was at Stanford I used to change my finger.plan every day, putting in parts of a continuing story or jokes or whatever. A lot of people looked at my finger.plan every day. So it would be fair to say I’ve been doing this for…some…incredible…number of years.

This is hilarious: they’re discussing how quick blogging is and how anonymous it can be through sites like blogspot.com. Because before blogs you needed, you know, FrontPage.

Okay, maybe I’m not anywhere near these guys. Whoever’s talking mentioned getting three million hits in a few days. Do I need to mention more sex in nka? Discuss.

Obviously the way to do this is multiple subentries on one entry and somehow getting individual timestamps for each subentry. But I don’t know how to do that, so I’m doing multiple entries.

On the upside, I’ll be all over the Movable Type recently updated list.

I’m now sitting on the hard and cold concrete floor of this space, right inside the door. Darin thinks this is convenient because my head is right at the proper height for him to put his beer can on. (N.B.: this would be funnier if Darin actually had a beer can, or even ever drank beer.)

What??? This blog is being developed into a TV show for MTV Networks??? Jesus, when I miss a wave, I miss a wave. Oh, her blog is all about her porn collection. “Sex, and porn, and robots.” That explains a lot.

Since I have to come up with amazingly pithy things in my blog whilst sitting on a hard concrete floor with the evening cold air at my back and a bunch of people standing around me, I have to say, “Dandie Dinmont eyeview” would be a great name for a blog.

Okay, maybe they didn’t know this many people would be here. The place is packed. Not that many people with laptops or other wireless communicators. (Only a few serious nerds like me doing live-blogging.) We’re standing at the back of this gallery space—today’s revelation: Chinatown is full of art galleries!—and it’s hard to hear. Standing, typing, and listening is just too damn hard.

I wish the web connection were working, because then I could sit outside, blog, and not have to work so hard.
