The quote of the day:
I am so tired of Aeschylus being ripped off. I know, because I haven't seen it, that "Three Kings" is really "Seven Against Thebes" only with automatic weapons. |

The funniest discussion anywhere bar none at the moment is on The Well, in the movies conf, in a topic entitled, "I haven't seen it, but..." It's a topic in which people discuss movies they haven't seen. This may sound pretty stupid to you, but only if you've never gotten into a discussion with someone on the merits of a film he or she hasn't seen. Which happens way, way too frequently. One guy on one of my screenwriting lists went Defcon 5 over the fascism and violence in Fight Club, pointing to it as what's wrong with Hollywood...and he hadn't even seen the movie. It was the kind of posting that makes you want to reply (and I think someone did), that, No, in fact, that kind of knee-jerk uniformed idiocy is what's wrong with America. Now, I admit that I don't want to see films based on what I've heard about them, or because they're not subject matter that appeals to me, or whatever. I make uninformed decisions about films (or books, or whatever) all the time. I try not to let people know about it. For example, every single review (usually glowing) I read of Eyes Wide Shut simply confirmed for me it was most likely the pretentious movie down the pipeline since The English Patient (which I also haven't seen). But I don't post an authoritative review of said film; I merely wallow in my own ignorance. And hope the rest of you don't catch on.
This is what they mean by synchronicity: I wanted to go the coffee place to get a cup of herbal tea with honey (that's what I'm drinking these days--I'm sure I could drink coffee, even decaf coffee, but the idea of drinking it still turns my stomach) and I wondered whether I should walk or drive. I turned on Talk of the Nation and the segment they were discussing was "Obesity in America." I walked.
The answer to yesterday's question: The Yankees sure hope so. NY is up 2 games to 0...and they haven't even gotten the home field advantage yet. |
