The Paperwork

Love In Santa Barbara

Complete with combination rehearsal dinners and bachelor parties.

Brent and Therese's wedding today was wonderful. Small, simple, but formal. Al did the ceremony -- he got a ministership from the Universal Life Church -- and Brent and Therese made their vows to each other. Bunchkin opted out of being part of the ceremony, deciding to go swinging on the swing set instead.

After the ceremony we headed into the hotel restaurant for the reception, which included a three course lunch and dancing (Therese made many people -- me and Darin not included -- get up and do the Macarena). No alcohol except for the mimosa punch (and that was enough to do me in -- Darin drove back to LA).

Weddings are all about having parties, I think. Public celebrations. It isn't going to give the two people getting married anything they don't already have.

Last night we had a "rehearsal dinner" with Brent and Therese's family and their close circle of friends at a Greek restaurant. The food was great, but the best thing was the belly dancing. Or rather, Elinor's reaction to the belly dancers, which was to follow them around, stick dollar bills in their panties, and dance around the dance floor pulling up her skirt to imitate the dancers with their veils. There isn't a shy bone in that girl's body. I told Therese we needed to get her a tiny belly dancer outfit, or at least a big veil she could use to sweep around. The sooner Brent and Therese can get Elinor into some physical discipline -- martial arts, dance, something -- the better. That kid is the Tasmanian Devil.

Now Darin and I are back at my apartment, splayed out over the couches, being late Sunday afternoon taters. Zzzzzzzz.
