I loooove LA...
There were three more freeway shootings tonight -- on the 101 south between Universal and Hollywood. In other words, a stretch of road very near and dear to me.
A cabal of people -- or one person with an idea worthy of being replicated by several hundred people around the city -- have shot out the back windows of over 200 autos with bb guns or pellet guns. I just can't think about this. There's so much going on here I usually don't even want to leave my apartment. Actually, I didn't want to leave my nice cozy home with Darin to come back here. I wonder how I'd be able to get anything done if he were down here with me. I'd just force him to cower with me, preferably in a comfy situation.
How I lived so long without the cheesy local news shows that they've got around here I have no idea. The CBS station is doing a "special report", complete with computer graphics and breathless reporting.
I also came back to the Southland to discover 97 degree heat. A harsh, unbelievable heat wave to last through Friday. Why did I have to get an apartment in the Valley? What the hell was I thinking?
Tonight I stayed after the Business and Legal class to talk to Majo, the TA. Aaron was talking with Brooke, and the four of us walked out together. I told Brooke that I've mentioned her a couple of times on my web page.
"You have a web page? Do you have a laptop? Bring your laptop in and show me. I love web pages."
Hey. She knows my name now. The more people who know my name in this town, the better.
One of the things I found very interesting was Majo talking about her period of getting acclimated to the GSP program. A couple of times last year, she said, she had her bags packed, ready to leave. Now, of course, she's Ms. Connected, with her fellowships and all. So there's hope.
USC is only connecting at 2400 baud. What is 2400 baud, other than a sick, twisted, anti-progress joke? Well, I can't web-surf at 2400, and I have too much writing to do anyhow.
My Powerbook power cord has stopped working, so I had to dash over to Harry's to borrow one of his. How embarrassing. "My power cord ate my homework." I have to finish this writing for tomorrow's class.
I can't wait until we settle down and don't have to come up with five different sets of scenarios and characters each week. Working in depth on one or two ideas is going to be enough for me.
