the spiky heart
a chilling tale of modern electronics.
Running news:
5.3 miles.

Just a few days when I was out running, I looked at my heart rate monitor and noticed that my heart rate was hovering around 165. And I thought, Hm, I'm not going fast enough, because I like it to hover around 170. I tried to speed it up a little, but not too much.

Today, I didn't think I was running particularly fast (subjective assessment). Then I noticed that I hit all my usual marker spots at about a minute faster than normal, which I thought really, really odd, but I was happy about.

Then, 15 minutes or so into the run, I noticed my heart rate had spiked to 177. I slowed my pace, and eventually the rate came down. Then I'd run some more and sure enough, my heart rate went straight back to 175, which is my upper limit. So I did my run in an incredibly quick time, including my walking breaks (because I didn't turn off the stopwatch for the walking breaks).

I don't know what's going on. I don't think I've metamorphosed into a superathlete over night. Seeing the monitor at 177 kind of freaked me out, actually. Darin pointed out that my subjective assessment of not going any faster than usual isn't to be trusted, given that I have this monitor giving me my heart rate and the time I'm going.

Maybe this has to do with my inconsistent running schedule of late. I don't know. I'm going to watch it carefully tomorrow, since I have a long run planned.

Okay, okay, okay, fine: healers in Clan Lord should do whatever they want to.

I don't have anything against healers killing things. I became annoyed by healers leaving me so that they could go off and fight things, which gets them killed. So instead of me getting healed so I can protect them while they heal others, we're all dead and have to wait for the next rescue party to come through.

But if you're not one of those healers, carry on.
