I thought I ached yesterday? I didn't know what pain was. The biggest ache (the dull muscle ache, not the electric ripped-tendon kind of pain) is in the front of my ankles. Ow.

Today was the low-key day. We packed up at Lake Louise and drove to Banff because I wanted to stop at the Timberland store again and load up on shoes in my size. Everyone else wanted to stop at Banff too; Mitch wanted to hit the candy shop again and buy more jelly bellies.

The Timberland store had not a shoe left in my size. Feh.

Then we drove to Lake Kananaskis. We made a lot of jokes about how to say this, but it's quite easy: Kan-a-nas-kis. It was one of the sites of the Calgary Olympics. There's nothing here except the Lodge at Kananaskis and a few other motels. No town. No nothing.

Before arriving at Lake Kananaskis, we managed to get separated. Darin was the lead car, and we saw a sign that mentioned Kananaskis on it. I got out the radio, but by the time I could ask, "Should we take this?" we had passed the exit.

The second car proceeded to take the exit. Sigh.

We continued on to the next exit (an abandoned truck stop) and then to the third exit, which mentioned Kananaskis Village. The second car radioed in that they were getting back on the highway and would be joining us. We still had no idea if this was the right exit or the first Kananaskis exit had been the right one or what. Both cars proceeded down the highway a bit until we came to an Information Centre, at which we discovered we were at the right place, we just had to drive a bit more.

We checked in and then settled into our rooms. Darin and I really settled in, not emerging until dinner; then after dinner we settled in again.

Like I said, not much happened.

However, I did do quite a bit of sweating, despite making no physical effort whatsoever.

Darin read my screenplay, the one I finished in May and that I've let lie fallow ever since. One of the reasons he hadn't read it until now is that we had a bit of a misunderstanding:

  • Since I had finished the screenplay, I was waiting for Darin to ask to read it.
  • Since Darin knows how I am about my work, he was waiting for me to ask him to read it.

We suddenly discovered this misunderstanding a week or so ago. Darin decided to take my screenplay with, and he read it today.

He liked it. He had comments, sure, but he liked it.

He noticed the major flaw of the story, though: the three main characters are all women -- younger, middle-aged, and older. "No one will ever make this movie."

As we went through it and he could give me my comments, I noticed a couple of lines I thought were really funny. And I wrote them! Yay.

Anyhow, Darin noticed that I was sweating something awful. I hadn't even realized it before he started scratching my back.

The
             Paperwork continues...
