Is It Summer Already?

That means Labor Day is right around the corner.

Darin says he's really been enjoying this diary. I said, "You read it?" He gave me his Darin-look and said, "Of course. And I tell everyone about it."

What a guy. I'm his Number One fan too. It's like a Mutual Admiration Society with sex.

Today I got a call from my GP to come in and talk to her about the severity of my recent symptoms. Of course I had to wait and wait and wait to see her, which made me nervous about getting to a lunch date I'd made with a friend. Not that I was worried about standing the friend up--I'd made sure to leave a message to the effect that I was at the doctor's.

No, I was worried about missing lunch.

I had lunch, and lunch stayed put. I decided to celebrate this unique event by spending the afternoon watching Aliens, which unlike Alien I have seen several times since it first came out. I have been under the impression that Aliens was completely different structurally from Alien--"team of Marines kicks butt" versus "haunted house in space". But having seen them back to back, I think I can say that Cameron did a better job than is generally thought in reflecting--not duplicating and not reinventing the wheel--the original.

Perhaps this was the problem in Alien 3. Or maybe not. Does anyone else find it difficult to believe that the same guy directed both Alien 3 and Seven? (His name's David Fincher, in case you're wondering.)

As I write this, Darin and I are watching an episode from the first season of Homicide. I have heard so many times that people cannot stand watching this show because of the jerky camera moments and the lack of continuity. This show kicks such major butt both stylistically and thematically that I remain convinced that these people are full of crap. NBC showed amazingly great taste in renewing Homicide for two more seasons.

If they don't bring back Andre Braugher, I personally will picket NBC Headquarters. Anybody else in for a protest? Action of the 60s brought forth with gusto into the 90s.

And somebody give that man an Emmy already.
