Well, if this isn't the coolest thing in the world: Darin and I ended up not going to the fireworks tonight with Brent, Therese, and Bunchkin because I was too damn tired. So we came home and I went to the PowerBook to see if I'd gotten any mail and lo and behold...I can sit right here at the desk where I usually sit and type and I can see fireworks. This is much better than actually having to go to the fireworks. Enjoy the fireworks and your own home, that's what I say.

ARGH!!!!

A couple of readers had written in and said there was something messed up with my December 1996 entries and I'm like, yeah, yeah, whatever...until I just checked it out now. Dammit. DAMMIT.

The first 10 entries of December were trashed, somehow replaced by part of the entry from August 30. I have no idea how that happened. They were messed up on Donut too, so they are gone.

DAMMIT. I am really, really p.o.'ed. Mostly at myself, since it's more than likely my fault.

Today we went over to Da Boyz' for the July 4th BBQ, 'cause it just ain't Independence Day without big slabs of cooked meat. Yum. I had two beers over the space of 6 hours and I think that's why I was all done in when it came to watch fireworks.

Al told me he doesn't believe I actually write these every day, because he logs in, sees I have no entry, then checks again the next day and voila! An entry for the previous day has mysteriously appeared.

It's true, I said: many times I write an entry a day or so after the actual day has passed, but everything mentioned in a day's entry is from the perspective of that day. This was especially fun when I was trying to keep up in Canada and wrote three entries on one day, trying to remember what we'd done on any particular day.

You know, that made much more sense when I started writing it.

All I want is a public news server. I just want access to a little alt.showbiz.gossip here, a little misc.writing.screen there, maybe a little comp.sys.mac.forsale once in a while. It's not too damn much to ask.

There are tons of lists on the Web of publically accessible Usenet servers. The only problem is, none of them will allow me to access news. A little unclear on the concept, n'est-ce pas? How do people generate these lists?

No, I don't need the binaries groups. If you know of a server that lets me read any group but those, please tell me.

I had insomnia last night, which meant I slept in this morning. I woke up when my sister called and we chatted about many things, not the least of which were the very strange legal troubles of the estranged husband of a friend of hers. (And if you think that's hard to follow...man, imagine if I'd had three beers...)

After we talked, I put on Ye Olde Running Outfit and went out. I followed the instructions I found on the Runners World site and took it easy. I walked for about 15 minutes and then jogged-and-walked home. I did okay, even though I was going uphill, and I'm not terribly sore right now. However, what almost did me in was the heat.

It's hot in LA now.

Welcome to summer; hope you've got air conditioning.

The
             Paperwork continues...
