The Paperwork

Packing

Is that where I put that?

I started packing for the move last night. Darin went out to dinner to Greg, and I stayed home and did my best imitation of a lump. (I do quite a good one.) I decided after a while that Darin, who works hard for the money, did not deserve such a completely useless wife -- I don't clean, I don't cook, I barely do my own stunt work (although I do not use a body double thankyouverymuch) -- so I start tidying the loft. We use the loft as our storage area for all the crap that builds up around our house.

The house is tidy; the loft is a minefield. A hip-deep minefield. I'm finding Japanese soldiers that don't know the war is over up there.

As I packed and tidied, I watched Hudson Hawk on TV. It's a terribly silly, completely overblown movie -- should I admit in public that I enjoy it? Also, Richard E. Grant is so enjoyable I can't believe he's not gay. I want to be just like him when I grow up.

I have to make lists. Lists of things to do, to get, to pack. As I'm packing I'm discovering that there are boxes I still haven't unpacked from when I moved in with Darin. Whee ha.

Today, Tuesday, I got my new phone number -- stupidly, I forgot to have one of the Web phone number convertors up so that I could check out all the available combinations for cute acronyms, but I lucked out and got a good one anyhow.

I tried to call the Department of Water and Power, but they cleverly don't allow access through their 800 number outside of the LA area.

The cable company? Forget it. I managed to slip through some strange collection of phone connections until I heard the automated voice say, "If you wish to make a call..."

I've also put together the massive collection of medical service bills that need to be reimbursed, found my measles form to send to USC, and tried to collate all of the forms I've been getting from USC over the past month or so. I'm trying to be on top of the situation, rather than let the situation fall over and bury me. It's a new resolution of mine.

Boy, I'd sure like to have the power on before I get there. I wonder if there's some end run I can make around the 800 number.
