This new show, Lazytown, just debuted on Nick Jr. Sophia asked to watch it. Then she wanted to watch more. The show’s been on a week and it’s the only thing she wants to watch.

Given that it’s a show that wants to inspire kids to get up and move, I’m not sure that’s a good sign. But it’s actually a very, very entertaining show.

sportacus2.jpg Lazytown is the story of (where else?) Lazytown, where both superhero Sportacus and supervillain Robbie Rotten live. Sportacus is into health and activity and eating good food. Robbie wants everyone to be lazy and eat junk food. robbierotten.jpg

stephanie_1.jpgEight-year-old Stephanie moves to town and becomes friends with Sportacus and the other kids in town (all of whom are puppets), and they foil Robbie’s schemes. And periodically Stephanie, in her bright pink hair and bright pink dress, bursts into a technopop number.

Do not get high before watching this show. I’m just saying.

I sat down to watch this show with Sophia and I definitely had a good time. The themes of the episodes are pretty obvious, but entertainingly done. The importance of getting your sleep, the importance of eating well and choosing an apple over candy, the importance of being honest over telling a lie. I just wish Sophia wanted to get up and bop with Stephanie when she’s doing one of her techno numbers.

The strange accents of Sportacus and Robbie Rotten, the bright colors, and the technopop interludes made me wonder: is this Scandinavian or something? So I looked it up on the Web and no, it’s Icelandic. Yes, Icelandic. And it’s evidently this huge conglomerate, with books and stage shows and all sorts of spinoffs.

My question for my vast audience of Icelandic readers (hi there): was this show originally broadcast in English? Or did they do two versions: the English for export and Icelandic for home?

Update: I’ve closed comments on this entry because I’m getting very, very tired of deleting comments about how “hot” Stephanie is. Guys, she’s 13 oe 14. Find someone your own age.   2. I would love to have a Lazy Town dvd, I really need to see Sportacus every day, my three year old son at my side. We just love this show, I am really impressed, can’t wait to buy stocks and lazytown everything. My Directv has been out for almost a week, a real crime and I am having a miserable time. I need!! I should have been taping it.
    My husband has never seen Lazy town, he thinks its fun that I have a crush, it needs to come on in the evening, and more episodes. Soon. Please.

My husband is so funny, he knows about my little crush on Sportacus and we get Nick Jr. Noodle magazine and of course there they are Sportacus and Stephanie right on the front page and I’m just ranting and raving on how much I LOVE LAZY TOWN and panting over you know who, well later, I go in the kitchen to get something out of the frig and I noticed that my husband had cut out Stephanie’s picture and put her on the frig and so I went to examine the trash and no picture . I asked him where Sportacus was and he wouldn’t tell me. The next day I was in my car, I reached in my purse for my keys and there my hubby had put Sportacus in my purse so I could share it with all my other mommy friends that I go to school with that finally have something to watch with our children that we can enjoy and I mean really enjoy, the singing and dancing, my son, Matthew, wants to be just like Sportacus he’s three and we just love Stephanie’s beautiful voice and smile. We need a DVD, or better yet a Lazy Town Movie like the big screen and Toys. Lots of different Toys.

  6. My son wants to watch Lazy Town every day and here it is Saturday and he wants to watch it really bad, I guess I will have to start taping the episodes. We just love Lazy Town.

  9. My daughter (she’s 4) absolutely LOVES this show. I stumbled upon it and, except for the very first time she watched it, she jumps around and dances and sings a great deal because of it. Since she had a heart transplant a few years ago, staying physically fit and maintaining healthy eating is a matter of life and death. I for one want this show to stay for a long time….

My 14 month old son absolutly LOVES ur show, i have taped all of the lazy town shows, and my son watches the tape over and over and over he can’t get enough of it, his dad even made a cd of all the songs, now we cant go a mile in the car without listening to the cd. I can even admit were getting into just as much as our son. Thank You Magnus , thank you so much. Love always Zack’s mom and dad

  13. I just found this site and I am greatful for all the information found here. I am also a mother of 3 energetic boys and our lives have changed since Lazytown aired. We all love it, and yes, I am one of those moms that totally loves Magnus. Go Sportacus!!

  15. I’m a 21 year girl in college and I watch the show WAY to much for my age. I started watching the show with my 6 year old brother. We tend to watch alot of tv with each other and so we watch about the same stuff,oh dear HA hA! Anyway, we both saw it together at the same time and we laughed at the same parts and everything. MY brother thinks Stephanie is the cutest girl he has ever ment and talks about how she and he are going to get married. Although he loves the show, we both love Robbie. He makes us laugh and I love the guy’s outfit. The one episode where Robbie, dresses up as a Dino to scare Sportacus I think is our favorite. My brother is is forever now saying, WHat’s going on? Is there a diaper on my head!? Boys…THis show is one of the best children’s story I’ve ever seen. THe bright colors of the world and characters is very intersting and oddly enough, the height between each character is pleasing on the eye. Trust me, just watch and notice the height of the actors to each other and the puppets. IT seems to fit. Well that’s enough for me. Back to drooling of the picture of Sportacus ER!! I mean….*hurries off*

  20. I just adopted a 4 month old little girl, named Magan, and have been searching for tv shows that I would feel good about her watching when see gets older. I love Lazy Town. Not only dose it give out good messages but it is also fun to watch and a show I wouldn’t mind watching with her.

    Dose anyone know if the show is out yet on DVDs and if not, will it be?

  21. Hi guys I’m only 15 but i watch my neighbor’s toddlers for some extra dough and they like this show a lot…mostly for the dancing I think. Anyway i watch it with them and let me just say that Sportacus is a complete hottie! Yeh i knew he’s my parent’s age but damn is he fine! The show is definetly cool, and I CAN’T believe they don’t have Stephanie customes for little kids yet. That’s a shocker…I would have loved to be Stephanie for hoalloween many years ago.

  27. I found just found this blog by accident, I have been a fan of Lazytown and watch it with both my 2-1/2 year old daughter and 5-year-old son. Sometimes I even watch it by myself when they are sleeping (its better than watching soaps or talk shows) Its strangely addictive.   28. The 6 kids I nanny for are loving Lazytown and so am I! thay learn so much from each episode and it allows me to use Sportacus as leverage for following the rules around the house. We need the music Cd though we sing the songs and sometimes forget the words. Also There aren’t very many episodes, we have seen the same ones over and over again, but still keep faithfully watching!!!!!!

  32. I watch this show with my 4 year old daughter, she loves the songs and characters. I’m sure I will be creating a Stephanie costume for her on holloween! By the way have you seen the profile on Robbie Rotten’s chin? It makes me burst out laughing.

  33. My daughter loves the show, and I love Sporticus,Magnus Scheving! I feel bad, since I’m married and a mother of three. I sure enjoy watching the show with her.
    I’m sure we’ll be seeing alot more of Magnus Scheving. (hopefully)

  34. We appreciate the comments that people are posting about Julie. Her uncle and I are very proud of her. She will be comming to America in July to do a Broadway production.

    She loves to dance and is very energetic, we are currently making a web site for her for all of her fans.

    She works very hard and DOES read message boards on the internet with fans writing to her.

  38. I have been very amused by the comments on this site. I have recently turned 18, and my other sisters (16 and 11) and I love the show! I think I’m the most obsessed one out of the three of us. Everyone on the show is great and can actually sing! It is so refreshing! I love the songs. It is great to find a kids show that has a different style of song. Of course, I would like to find merchandise. I hope it comes out soon! I just wish I could sing a song for the show. Wow, that would be great. Anyway, now I’m going to go off to college, and will probably try to watch the show there too!

    And for your information:

    The actors of Spartacus and Robbie Rotten are real rolemodels in real life! Magnus (Spartacus) is a father of 2 or 3 children and started this whole LazyTown thing because he wanted more positive and healthy TV shows for his own kids.

    Stefan Karl (Robbie Rotten) however started a organization for “bullying victims” as he was the victim of bullying himself as a kid.

Robbie rotten should be ashmed, teaching little kids that eating junk food is good, and being lazy is the way to go. Well I have to say that being lzy is not the way to go, and eating junk food is VERY bad.
