I thought I heard some noise coming from upstairs, so I turned on the baby monitor to discover Sophia is reading Curious George Learns the Alphabet to herself. I don’t know whether she’s actually reading it or has just memorized it, but she’s doing a fairly thorough reading.
Our bedtime ritual allows for her to read herself to sleep. It’s great to hear she’s actually taking advantage of it.

Oh, how cute!!! What a sweet moment! 😀 I memorized one of my first books–“The Berenstein’s B Book”–I think it’s a great way for them to make the connection between the sounds and the full text of the word. Great job, Sophia!!!

I ended up here by accident. But if you’d like to know if Sophia has memorized or does know how to read the book…point to random words in it to see if she knows what they are. I was also really into my own daughter when she was at that age and blessed with the time to prepare her for the competition there was then and there is now on how smart/how fast one’s kid is. Unfortunately some parents don’t have the time or for other reasons do rely on daycare/pre school and at them other important contributions are made to a child’s development like social skills. My daughter is in a gifted program now at 11 so I do know that all that earlier attention does amount to alot. Do I think she’s a genius? No. She does have an excellent memory and scored high on IQ tests. And love of books was instilled before birth. Myself, I never went higher than high school. But it proves that all education is not found in a book but mostly in life’s lessons. While I learned that an accelerated education (especially for my hispanic child) is a plus in this society I was also very careful not to criticize other people doing things differently. Their children may just turn out as rounded or more so than our own. We all do the best we can the best way we know or learned how. You’re doing a great job with Sophia.
