In line at Starbucks today—you know, the place where we pay $3 for a cup of milk with a touch of caffeine thrown in—the woman in front of me complained to her friend that it cost fifty dollars to fill up her car. “FIFTY dollars! It was two dollars a gallon!”
Which means she has a 25-gallon car.
Which means she has a fucking tank. What car takes 25 gallons?
Man, she was pissed. Because cheap gas is her right, dammit.
Honey, you deserve those kinds of prices. Economize now: stay out of my Starbucks.
(Darin’s comment: “Just lugging around that much fuel is going to hurt your fuel economy.”)
Michael Rawdon says
I did my weekly fill-up yesterday. It was $11-something.
I thought, “Wow, not only is it cool to have a fuel-efficient car, but now that I live just where I want to live, I’m driving half as much as I used to!”
Bwah-hah-hah.
My old car (1987 Civic) was really fuel-efficient. I got a few 50 MPG tanks during its lifespan. Of course, it was really tiny and very light. My current car (2000 Civic) is significantly bigger and heavier. OTOH, small and light was very convenient for driving in the snow.

A friend just sent me this:
Lincoln Navigator: 28 gal gas tank.
The big Chevy Suburban: 37 gal gas tank
Hummer v1: 25 gal plus 17 gal aux tank
!!!
Rob says
Rexhall Vision 27′ RV: 75 gal gas tank.
At least we don’t use it to commute.
Michael Rawdon says
NPR had an article this morning that pointed out that Hummers have such poor fuel efficiency that they don’t include their gas mileage in their ads.
The Hummer H2 has a 32-gal tank. I couldn’t find MPG info on their Web site.
Me, I just want them to bring back the Volkswagen Thing.

If you keep a goat, you’ve got to feed it.
Or something like that.
Matt says
The H2 gets about 10 MPG. My Prius gets 55.
The H2 costs $50 thou and spends $64 on a tank of gas to go 320 miles.
I spent $18 thou after tax breaks, and it costs me $20 to go 550.
Q: How *small* do you have to be to want to pay that much for a symbol?
silver jewelry says
notice how 10 years ago, prices barely rose, and now suddenly within each week the price soars!! It’s ridiculous!
